Why Savognin Is Switzerland’s Hidden Gem for Tour Operators
Savognin, Switzerland is a hidden gem for Tour Operators looking to create distinctive and well-balanced Alpine itineraries. As the first half of the year is when Tour Operators are creating new programs and tours for the following year – summer 2027 – and refreshing existing ones, its essential for us at Swiss Tailor Made to ensure we are fully up to speed on everything that’s happening within our portfolio. Among our wide range of partners spread across the country, there are new developments happening constantly, with hotel renovations the most common.

The AVES Homebase Savognin
Towards the end of 2025, a change of ownership at our partner hotel the AVES Homebase Savognin was the catalyst for a renovation program and a review of operations, leading to some operational developments, particularly with the dining concept and restaurant. Naturally, it was crucial for us to see the changes for ourselves in order to communicate them to our Tour Operator partners. Although the works were minor and the changes subtle, they have made a big difference in improving the guest experience. Take a look at the new-look AVES Homebase Savognin website and see for yourself.

Savognin, a hidden gem close to the action
Savognin itself remains a hidden gem, situated in the lesser-known Val Surses, even though it is extremely well connected – just a short ride away from popular well-known destinations like St Moritz and experiences like the Glacier Express and Bernina Express on public transport. Another plus for Tour Operators is that there is so much to see and do here. With trails suited to both casual walkers and experienced hikers, Savognin is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding landscape. Its ski area, whilst not the largest in Switzerland, still delivers a strong mix of pistes and convenient ski-in, ski-out access. Nearby Bivio, easily reached by PostAuto, adds even more variety for skiers.

Why close partnerships are essential
Then there is Sandro Zollinger, Hotel Director of the AVES Homebase Savognin. Once we have made the introductions between the Tour Operator and the hotel, collaboration will usually continue either directly with the hotel or, where additional services are required, via one of our partner DMCs for independent travellers or groups. In both cases, it helps enormously for us to know the Hotel Director well.
Sandro is not only a pleasure to work with, but consistently goes out of his way to find the right solution for each Tour Operator. He is always open to discussing rates that work for both sides and, when we are designing new programs featuring Savognin and the surrounding area, he effectively becomes an extension of our team, providing valuable input into the itineraries themselves.
